Willing to contribute, but facing difficulties

Hello everyone, I am a 2nd-year mechanical engineering student from BITS Pilani, and I am very excited to contribute to the organization but I am facing some difficulties

  1. I know how to write code in C++ but I am new to open-source contributions, I would highly appreciate it if some experienced developer could help me solve my doubts while contributing.
  2. Although I understand C++, I can still not understand the code or the issues raised by fellow contributors on GitHub, I will be thankful to anyone providing me guidance and helping me in getting familiar with FreeCAD and its repository.

Hi suryanshgargbpgc. Glad to hear of your interest.

  1. This should be relatively simple. I would advise just putting up your question about contribution at the appropriate place (usually github issue or PR). If there are specific questions someone may be able to help you out through a call if they find time, but then that interaction will just vanish in the ether rather than there being a record for future reference.
  2. FreeCAD, like any software large enough, is going to be new however much development experience you have. I suggest looking for “low hanging fruit” problems (or whatever the equivalent tag is in the tracker). If even they are confusing, start with using freecad first so that you’re more accustomed to terminology.
