Basically indeed the Localisation_Sidebar page seems outdated. As far as I can see:
- the sidebar at [wiki]MediaWiki:Sidebar[/wiki] seems correctly formatted. All items are inside an {{int:}} template.
- For each sidebar item, we have a https://wiki.freecadweb.org/MediaWiki:<sidebar-item> so for example, to translate the item “Workbenches”, in Localisation_Sidebar we see that the item is sidebar-workbenches. So the corresponding page is https://wiki.freecadweb.org/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Sidebar-workbenches . So far so good.
- By https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=9687&start=10#p80441 the page https://wiki.freecadweb.org/MediaWiki:Sidebar-messages needs to be updated with all the items in the sidebar. Indeed sidebar-workbenches is missing there. As a test, I just added sidebar-workbenches at the bottom now.
- Now is the problem, we should now go to http://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/index.php?title=Special:translate/wiki-sidebar and normally we should be able to translate our new item, but I don’t see anything?
I came to the same page that you are pointing at the end your answer but I see all translations awaiting for update or to be made…not the sidebar. it’s like a dead end or mis-routing (can I say that?).
Yes… But some former items have been successfully translated already. This is weird. Most probably something has changed in recent mediawiki versions and the https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:Translate/Unstructured_element_translation#Localised_sidebar_tutorial tutorial doesn’t work anymore…

Let’s test first, but yes, I think so. Normally, every translator on the wiki has also editor rights. So if I’m not mistaken they have the right to create pages too. It’s easy, just write the URL of a page that doesn’t exist, and you’ll be offered to create it, ex: https://wiki.freecadweb.org/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Sidebar-workbenches/de
EDIT It seems to work OK, when switching to french, the item “Workbenches” in the sidebar is now correctly translated to “Ateliers”

which user are you using? kaktus has normal editor permission, but kaktus_pl not, i don’t know the reason…

Aah i see, only admins are able to create pages in the MediaWiki: namespace.
I don’t think this restriction is very important to us.. i’ll look at how to change that
right, that was the purpose of my previous feedback. that’s great if you can modify the rights.
Ok enabling all users to modify the MediaWiki namespace seemed dangerous (you could break the whole wiki), so I did the following: From now on, members of the “admin” group will be able to modify/create pages in the MediaWiki namespace. (admins are not not wiki administrators, the “admin” group was created by the Translation plugin and gives additional powers related to translation, for ex. delete or move translations, etc)
So basically, who wants to edit MediaWiki: pages, please ask me (here or via PM, tell me which wiki username) and I’ll upgrade your wiki account.
I’m eager, Yorik.
It will be useful to handle the Polish version of the sidebar on my own.
