On a whim I decided to redesign the icon for freecad, time permitting I’d like to tackle the rest of the interface artwork on http://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/index.php?title=Artwork you can take a look at a bitmap preview of my work at http://imgur.com/LKkDuwq I don’t know where to host the .svg or who to contact regarding submission; so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Great, but IMHO at 16x16px it looks a bit fuzzy…
Hi
There are guide lines at the bottom of the page.
One of the real challenges in icon design is making them legible in as small a size as possible. In FreeCAD icons should be as legible as possible at 16px. This is often very difficult.
In my opinion its probably best to look at adding any missing icons and fixing any errors in any existing icons, at least at first rather than trying to redesign the whole lot.
But really the key difficulty is making your icons understandable at 16px.

alright: this is just an application icon so far, and if I understand correctly you can define different icons for lower resolutions in the .desktop file. so a 16*16 optimised version is on the cards.
is there a list of missing interface icons anywhere convenient? what’s the dealio with submisssion?
Before we used svg files we used bitmap formats, having different icons for each resolution was a common approach for many applications, I believe, however my understanding is that the point of using svg files is that they are good for scaling, so you would normally only need one icon.
As far as I know there is no list of missing icons at this time. As far as submission goes, post and discuss here.
I should also point out that I am quoting my opinion here in an attempt to be helpful, Yorik is the one who usually makes the decisions on icons. Workbench specific icons mostly would be decided by the workbench developers, particularly if it is a workbench being mostly developed by a single developer or small group of developers, like Ship for example.

Yes basically one svg file is used for all resolutions.. It’s a matter of design, really, to make something that looks good at all resolutions.
For missing icons, basically look in the different freecad menus for items that miss an icon…
