Hey, this is Kairen. I am happy to be accepted to begin the project with FreeCAD on this GSoG. I will update here.
I am grateful to @Chris Hennes and @marioalexis for being my mentors. I also welcome suggestions from everybody.

Congratulations KairenShen! We’re thrilled to have you working on FreeCAD! We all found it very interesting and it will coincide with a structure that marioalexis wishes to develop to enable FEM to use new solvers on the fly.
marioalexis will be your main mentor, and chennes your secondary mentor. They will contact you later on to see how you guys would like to work and decide on the next steps.
I strongly encourage you to keep the community posted as often as possible on your findings and advancements. This can be done in whatever form you prefer, but I would suggest using this forum thread, simply. Experience has shown us that projects that communicate often with the community receive a lot of good feedback.
The FEM workbench is coded half in C++ and half in Python. If you are going to touch the C++ part, you will need to be able to compile FreeCAD. I would start with that, make sure you are able to compile it, then start your exploration of FEM. Don’t hesitate to call for help, here or in any other part of the forum.
I am acting as the general GSoC admin for FreeCAD, don’t hesitate to ask me directly if you meet a problem that your mentors are unable to solve.
I’ll also make sure to notify always of all deadlines so we comply with google requirements without stress ![]()
Eager to see what you’ll come up with!
Welcome, KairenShen – congratulations on your selection for GSoC 2024. Thank you for choosing FreeCAD as your open source project for this effort! I’m excited to delve back into the world of FEM and to help you on your way with this project. While marioalexis is the main mentor for this project, I hope to remain as involved as time allows, and look forward to your progress.
Welcome KairenShen , your project is a good opportunity to demonstrate how versatile FreeCAD is to adapt to such specific tasks.
You can count on me. I will try to help you in any way I can.
Great thanks, everobody.
I went through the FreeCAD document related FEM and drawn up a preliminary plan for Stage 1.
If it seeems to work, I will begin the code job.

Hello KairenShen ! Hope you could start working on this already! Any progress to share with us? ![]()
Also KairenShen do you have a git repo where we can have a look at your progresses?
Any news on this topic?
I have posted the current repository although it is not completed. Looking forward, I still hope to integrate SAFEM into FreeCAD as an alternative computational core. Following plan is to approach this in three steps, starting from simple to more complex implementations: first, through a Python script, then a macro, and finally by developing a dedicated workbench.
While the project didn’t go as planned, I’m committed to following through with these steps to contribute meaningfully to FreeCAD. I appreciate your support and understanding throughout this process.
