And once again, at this point, we need two things:

  1. People wanting to be mentors. Mentoring is not hard, it does not require big technical skills, but it requires dedication. You should be ready to spend around 2 or 3h/week with your student, possibly with some video meetings. Projects can run for a few weeks up to 3 months (the student decides). You don’t need to be a great coder, but you need to know your way around the FreeCAD source code, the forum and the github repo, so you can help your student out when they are stuck. That can often be: help them to find the right person to ask when you also don’t know the solution. Mentors are also paid by google (500USD per mentor, to be adjusted if you are mentoring a short or long project). You’ll never be attributed a student arbitrarily, it’s you who chooses which project you want to mentor, or none if none picks your interest. At this point, I’d just like to know who’s interested.

  2. Project ideas. We need more ideas for potential students. That helps them knowing what the areas of interest are, and to develop their own ideas. If you think of something, please add to https://wiki.freecad.org/Google_Summer_of_Code_2024 This year, projects can be of 350h, 175h or 90h. Ideally we should have a few of each.
