I am looking at doing some PLM style integration for capturing and viewing BOM data along with storing lightweight representations of models, manufacturing/inspection views and production data such as CNC routs and such. This is a bit of a more broad goal with this project to integrate with a database system that works similar to team center or SAP.
Right now it looks like there are multiple competing assembly work benches. What one to use?
I ask this question with the goal of understanding the current state of assembly functionality in the application and to figure out witch one is going to continue with active development and is most likely to stick around longer than the previous attempts.

Is this thread in the right place? The UI forum might not the right place to have this. I plan to be updating it as I make changes to the package and work on collaborating with folks from it.
What is the policy on editing earlier posts. I plan to update the first post in this thread to have the latest build process info when ever it needs updated. Is that approach frowned on?
Indeed the UI subforum was a weird choice to start. This usually deals with, “hey, this icon is better”, “hey, make that bar larger”. Since this is more like a development effort it could be in Open discussion as it’s an open ended thing. External workbenches usually have a thread in the Open discussion subforum which people can use to ask questions and report things.

No. It’s very welcomed. There are some threads in this forum which are 100 pages long, and span 3 years or more, and it’s basically impossible to follow unless you already know what it is about. So, a thread whose first post is kept up to date is nice.
Now, I personally suggest you to close the thread after it gets too long (10 pages, 1 year). Then you can start a new thread with Part 2 of the discussion, in order to present the most recent status of your project.
I will ask that this thread be locked by a mod and start a new one in the Open discussion subforum as suggested.
