CAElinux bundles FreeCAD (not sure which version). It also bundles in a number of FEM solvers. The community forums are over-run by spam but there is still activity. Especially by the dev (Joël Cugnoni) who publishes the distro and supposedly he is still working on a release 3+ years since his last one. Maybe we can get more FEM folks to participate and collaborate ?

Dear all
After more than 3 years without release due to limited free time, I have now the pleasure to announce that I am finally working on a new CAElinux.
According to my rough estimates it should be ready by end 2017 or early 2018.
The base OS will be Xubuntu 16.04 and it will ship with the most recent versions of Salome Meca 2017, Code Aster 13.4 MPI, Code Saturne 5.0.4), Openfoam and HelyxOS GUI as well as Calculix (with Calculix Launcher GUI) and many more.
I will post here some updates and if you have suggestions feel free to reply to that topic.
Cheers
Joel

Thanks to all of you for the important feedback. As you have noticed, our website and forums where no more functional due to the phasing out of the reCaptcha service and we have now completelly migrated the site to a more modern base.
Unfortunatelly it is the only improvement that I managed to deliver until last time and CAElinux 2017 has not evolved yet. Overall, it is pretty usable but the misleading installation errors and some other problems related to the script used to remaster the liveDVD make me think that it is not sufficiently stable to promote it to a full release yet.
But for experience Linux users or for use in Virtual Machines like VirtualBox, it should work well.I am now starting a new job as professor in mechanical engineering, which means that i will be certainly pretty busy in the coming months, so I might not be able to do much for the moment in terms of new release. However, in my new function, I will focus on the development of open source tools for optimization and additive manufactuing, so CAELinux will be in my official todo list !
I will keep you posted for further news on that forum.
