Assembly 4: Place Fastener

Hello everyone,

I’m currently trying to follow this workflow for adding fasteners to an Assembly4 assembly. The fourth step tells me to “select that fastener, and click on ‘Place Fastener’ command”, however, I can’t find the “Place Fastener” command.

So far, I’ve created a part with holes and added it to an assembly:

Afterwards, with the Assembly File open, I created the Hole Axis. I had the Assembly active (not the Body) when creating the Hole Axis, but the Hole Axis was nevertheless created inside the Body. I don’t know if that’s an issue.

I then created a screw + a washer, but I can’t find the button to place them on the axis.

I’m on Version 0.19, Assembly4 v0.11.5, Windows 64-bit.

What am I missing? Thanks for your help.

yes, this tool was merged into the generic “place part” command :

HOLD-ON, that version has a very bad bug, please upgrade. All parts that you have created with it must be recreated !!!

Upgrade FreeCad or A4?

I’ve now upgraded FreeCad to 0.19.3 and A4 to v0.11.9 and everything seems to work as expected.

I now have a follow-up question: How do I attach a washer + a screw to the same axis?

Your original post mentions manually offsetting the fasteners, however this can only be done by manually typing the number, right?

So if I were to e.g. replace M2 with M4 the washer’s height would change and I would have to manually change the screw’s offset.

Is there any “correct” way for doing this? I tried creating a separate axis for each of the washer, screw and nut, but that seems like an overcomplicated solution…

Yes. Or ignore the small difference

How do I do this

select the master fastener for this family of fasteners, select all the “Hole Axis” that you wish, click on “Duplicate Fastener” and the master fastener will be duplicated and attached to each pre-selected “Hole Axis” object

I can’t find the Duplicate Fastener button either. Also I’m unable to select both the fastener & the axis at the same time

EDIT: Select all at the same time using ctrl instead of shift and “Clone Fastener to Axes”. Do I have to hide the initial fastener?
