As far as i am concerned it has my vote to be deployed. And i guess we can start getting feedback from regular users ASAP.
P.S. Linux should be mentioned too (AppImage):
For MacOS, Windows and source code, see the FreeCAD releases page.

I added Linux (AppImage) to the development releases section. Assuming everything else is alright, I will start converting the html page to php.
From mobile phone

I included the release notes section from the wiki in the downloads page. For now I added it after the download links, but if needed they can be shifted before too.
Ok I converted the downloads page to php, which can be seen here https://github.com/AR795/FreeCAD-Homepage-1/tree/add_downloads_page. Now I need to look for a way to test the php page…
I guess you could just create a PR, and after review and deploy phase, to see if any issues will get reported.
P.S. Or i guess the time to finally try out a LAMP/WAMP option has come. ![]()
Is your point is to show how broken it looks? I’m guessing the default MediaWiki theme with sidebar does not support mobile phones. On Wikipedia, the sidebar is replaced with a menu button. I wonder if they installed some special extension for it.
It has indeed. So after several tries, I was able to finally setup the ubuntu server virtual machine and run the php web page on it.
While testing, I noticed some embarrassing mistakes I made, which I now corrected. I need to be on the lookout for more bugs.
Yes, I think we should look in to fixing it.
Good to hear that.

Yes usually it makes sense to have a testing environment and to test such things, during development, as usually some issues get introduced, and can be detected after easily.
I have noticed that sometimes when viewing the webpage, scrolling is sluggish. The issue occurs more frequently on chromium. I made a couple of changes to the background svg and icons and now the scrolling is smoother, but just to be sure, I would like other users to test the page as well, to see if the issue is really fixed.
First load was not too fast, but subsequent loads where clearly faster than the current homepage.
The current homepage does indeed load slowly, I have to look into optimizing it.
There is not much point on making the downloads page nice for mobile users because FreeCAD is a desktop application. Even if you can search the wiki on the phone, the target audience of the wiki is the users that will sit on their desktop to use the software there.
This is actually not about making only the download page look nice, but making the whole wiki usable on a smartphone. The sidebar and icons, as well as symbols like bullet points do not scale, therefore they are microscopic.
I frequently check the wiki out on my smartphone, I think it would be useful to fix this.
But I believe this is a CSS/theming/extension issue, therefore out of our hands - only a full administrator like Yorik or kkremitzki can do something about it.

Shall we open an issue on mantis about this?
Sure, but I don’t expect it will be resolved any time soon… Yorik and Kurt just have too much on their plates.
Kurt asked me to make tickets for these things nevertheless. So I’ll open a ticket and post back to this thread.
Edit: Ticket 3711
Indeed, it’s just easier to keep track of things that way, I don’t mind such things simply being created and assigned to me.
The new download page is active and looking great!
